Dr Sarah Crick, Mission Astro Leader

Greetings, fellow Earthlings! I’m Dr Sarah Crick

As well as being an Academic Tutor and Astronomy Educator, I’m the woman in charge of Mission Astro. I was the one who pressed the big red ‘LAUNCH’ button and blasted us off into space. With a PhD in Astronomy, our crew is in the safest pair of hands. While we, as Earthlings, know a lot about space, once we are in orbit, you’ll realise that there are so many well-kept secrets. That’s why you and I will venture far and wide.

To

Because, in no time at all, when you’re ready to take your place in the space industry, you’ll be prepared, excited and ready to unveil mysteries we never thought possible. So, let’s board our spacecraft. It’s time for blast off.

I attended a Mission Astro Hot Choc Star Hop Workshop and I saw Saturn (and it’s rings!) for the first time! I learnt my way around the night sky and was able to share that knowledge with my family! Had a wonderful evening and the hot chocolate and space cupcake were delicious!

At the Hot Choc Star Hop Workshop I (a complete novis in the world of astronomy) attended in Hartley Wintney Cuppies ‘n’ Cream, I saw a smudge in the sky. After chatting to Dr Sarah Crick I learnt that it was a beautiful star cluster called the Pleiades!! And … I got to see it through a telescope too! Had a lovely evening and learnt lots about the sky! Will certainly be going back to try again.

I have always been interested in astronomy, but I prefer more theoretical knowledge rather than popular science. For me, Mission Astro is just about that. You get taught by a trained astrophysicist (with a PhD from Cambridge!) in a professional but very accessible manner and also meet so many prominent scientist along the way. I think this is the best course for a person with a genuine interest in astrophysics. P.S. The price is fantastic!

DJ is still exploring his interests, so when we find a free lesson to try, that is age appropriate, we are very excited. He participated in the free taster session from justgoodscience. It was over one hour long so we broke it up into sections. His favourite part was comparing a chocolate bar to a black hole. He also has a new favourite word ‘spaghettification’ and has told anyone who will listen the word and meaning.

Experiment with a free Astronomy Course.

Adventures in space aren’t a quick A-to-B trip. Before we blast off on a longer mission, why not try our free mini excursion: ‘Collision Course’. Get a feel for what our voyages will be like and experience our teaching style and resources first hand. Simply

Safeguarding our planet by educating about galaxies far, far away

To date, we’ve donated £1000 to Project DRAX at the SpaceGuard Centre to help them reach their goal of installing and operating a 24 inch Schmidt Camera, making it the largest telescope in Wales! With this epic technology, SpaceGuard Centre will be able to conduct a wide field sky survey to search for Near-Earth Objects and other space treasures. With every new student, we push the boundaries for what we can discover in space.
