2024-25 Warwick Winter Stargazing Events

Come and gaze back in time with us

This winter, we are hosting a special night of stargazing at Leek Wootton Village Hall, showcasing the delights of the night sky for all. With activities to suit both tiny astronomers and ones that have had many trips around the Sun, we look forward to welcoming you into our world of adventure. With stargazing, pasties, hot chocolate and astronomy talks, you are sure to be wowed, whether the weather is clear or cloudy.

What new discovery will you make with us this winter?

Stargazing Events In Warwick

Two events in one night! Our stargazing evening is split into two parts to allow you to select the perfect session suitable for you and your family. The first part is for mini stargazers (up to aged 9) and their families and the second part is for older stargazers (aged 10 and over).

Mini Stargazers (Under 10s)

17:30-18:45

Whatever the British weather brings, we are ready to whisk off our miniature sky explorers on a jam-packed space adventure! We’ll have a short space talk, a quiz and stargazing! Plan A is to be outside in the field using telescopes and binoculars to see the Moon, stars and planets. If our plot is foiled by thick cloud cover, we will retreat inside and explore the heavens digitally and do fun, interactive space activities. Each child ticket includes a space goodie bag.

Hot Choc Star Hop (10 and over)

19:00-21:00

Join Dr Sarah Crick and her team for a night of astronomy greatness! You will be treated to an entertaining astronomy talk delivered by Sarah on a hot topic in the space sector then dazzled by the delights in the skies of Leek Wootton through a telescope by Jordan from NOVA Stargazing. If the clouds blow in, you will be treated to a digital tour of the sky, a close up look at some HUGE telescopes and an astronomy quiz with an out-of-this-world prize for the victor!

All tickets include a hot chocolate, a space-themed cupcake and an entry into a prize draw to win a stargazing experience with NOVA Stargazing.

traffic lights for satellites

Traffic lights for Satellites (Warwick)

Now that there are more satellites in space, how do we know that they won’t crash into each other? Space is big, but it’s getting busy! With mega constellations going up and nothing much coming down, do we have a plan to combat space traffic?

Yes, there is parking available onsite.

There are bathroom facilities on site.

Please wrap up warm as we will be standing outside in the middle of winter. Do bring a red torch if you have one. (Can make one by putting red cellophane over a white torch if you are feeling creative.)

Please do not wear bright white head torches or use bright white lights while we are stargazing. It ruins the dark adaptation of everyone's eyes.

The telescopes we use can easily see our moon and solar system planets, as well as deep space objects like galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae.

Yes, the more the merrier.

Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

The contents will be different each time, but examples of contents include stickers, stationery, inflated balloons, coloring sheets, fabric patches, word searches, etc.

Once you have booked your ticket, please contact us with your dietary requirements, and we will arrange to provide you with a drink and snack that is suitable for your needs.

Assistance dogs are welcome, but we are unable to accommodate pets.

NOVA Stargazing

We are partnering with NOVA Stargazing for our events. Jordan, the founder of NOVA, is an experienced stargazer and will be joining us for our three winter observing sessions, with his fleet of telescopes set on planets, star clusters, galaxies and nebulae.
pasties

Butter Street Bakery

Nelson’s bakes are famous locally, and in our humble opinion, the best in the Galaxy! At our event this year, we are proudly serving a selection of pasties as well as delicious hot chocolate to warm us on the chilliest of winter evenings.
