Telescope Quest

Let your students see their world up close

An immersive experience for little explorers in EYFS and Key Stage 1 where they get to use a telescope and spy the world around them up close. This workshop is usually done in the daytime and the telescope is used to spot some hidden pesky space creatures that have suddenly appeared in their school! Your students will each look through a real telescope and catch a glimpse of a space object in the crosshairs. It’s a thrill to see their faces in wonder at how the telescope allows them to see far things up close.

Show your students the bigger picture

Telescopes are fascinating to young children; space, telescopes, aliens and planets feature heavily in children's books. We explain in very simple terms how the telescope works and why we use them for astronomy. Inspiring young children to be inquisitive and have perseverance in this modern world is so important. We love to amplify their imaginations and encourage them to ask questions and get stuck into puzzles.

Workshop line up

We begin with an assembly together where the first activity is a Solar System quiz – which the children always love!

Your engaging presenter will introduce the telescope to the children both in pointing out part of the telescope she has brought with her and also in more detailed pictures on the screen. The practical part of this session works best if done in small groups.

The presenter will take small groups to use the telescope while classroom teachers use the resources provided to entertain their classes while they wait for their turn. The resources include a video from Dr Sarah Crick, a dot-to-dot rocket, a word search and a colouring page.

We then come back together at the end of the workshop to discuss what we saw in the telescopes.
